This experience about the life of Hazret-i (his holiness) Sami (may Allah bless his secret, and bless him) is being mentioned by Hazret-i Sami’s very close-inner attendant and ikhwan advisor Ömer Muhammed Özturk: In 1892, Hazret-i Sami came into the world in Tepebağ in Adana – Turkey. Hazret’s father name is Mucteba, the mother’s name is Ummugulsum, the grandfather is Abdurrahman and the great-grandfathers are Ishak and Huseyin. According to Abdulhadi Efendi (is one of the great-grandfathers of Hazret-i Sami and also one of the last members of Ramazanoglu Beylik-was been accepted by Ottomans in 1608), the Ramazanoglu Beylik’s historical background dated back to the Turkish family of Ucoklar (Three Arrows) from Oghuz Tribe times (7th century). Most especially, the family came from Turkish Sultan Nureddin Zengi (Şehid) and lastly this Turkish Sultan Nureddin Zengi’s family tree from Halid bin Velid (may Allah mercy on him), the Sword of Allah. Hazret-i Sami mentions about his own birth: ‘’ My birth was in 1308 (according to Islamic Calendar) in Vakfısaray located in Adana. Before my birth, an unusual person came to our home and said: ‘There will be a birth in this house, a male birth, he will be a very gracious person, so call Sami name for him.’ And then he gone. After a time, this birth was seen, Hazret-i Sami born and Mahmud Sami name was chosen. Later than this time, this very unusual person interestinly came again and when he learnt the name as ‘Muhammed Mahmud Sami’ he immediately asked his trust in the box. He said: ‘This is not mine! Give me my real trust in the real box!’ Then, he checked the true one with happiness and made dua before leaving house. ’
Mahmud Sami Ramazanoglu analyzes this story of the unusual person related to his own birth: ‘’Save this memory for future. That unusual person was different and important. Just save this memory as much the same and I hope this knowledge will be mentioned as goodness in the future for the sake of Allah.’’ NOTE: That information was taken from the notebook of Ömer Kirazoglu (ra). It is obvious that Muhammed Mahmud Sami is the only original name. However, when we look at the documents of Muhammed Mahmud Sami on the date of November 6th, 1937 written in Latin language by his own handwriting, it is not strange that only ‘Sami’ name was prefered for official papers about land registry cadastre and papers were signed by that same name due to political pressure and negative conditions in that time. Based on General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, Hazret-i Sami born in Sabuncu Abdullah Street of Kayalıdağ District located in Seyhan – Adana. Then, the district was changed from Kayalıdağ to Tepebağ.
‘Sami’ means ‘high honourable’ (in other words dignity, exalted) and that special meaning can be summarized of his whole life from the beginning. Indeed, Muhammed Mahmud Sami is a role model with high character dedicated to the last messenger Muhammed (peace upon him) and his lifestyle for ultimate goal of life, the sake of Allah. Hazret-i Sami is one of the most outstanding examples for living perfectly according to Islamic laws and principles of Rasullullah (peace upon him). When most unknowing ones assumed that there was no option to live based on islam because of some difficulties, excuses and nonsense explanations, it was too clearly understandable that living islamic lifestyle with practising all different worships for every day and night as a lifelong process, also perfect ambition to live according to the sunnah of the last messenger Muhammed (peace upon him) are definitely possible like Hazret-i Sami’s almost 100 years. One of the biggest scholars shared his comment about Mahmud Sami and said: ‘’Unquestionably, Hazret-i Sami is one of the allies of Allah.’’ (Yunus Suresi 62. Ayetteki evliya kelimesinin İngilizce karşılığı ‘’allies’’ kullanıldı.) ‘Mahmud’ name was given to Hazret-i Sami by Prophet Muhammed (peace upon him) when he just came to Istanbul after Adana in the beginning of 1950s. And Mahmud Sami mentioned this important event to his khalife Hacı Hasan Efendi (from Adana) and said: ‘Warn our ikhwan about my new name, Mahmud. The name was commanded to me like that.’ When Ümmügülsüm Hanım (the mother of Hz Sami) gave permission to his little son to go outside and play with other kids, he was always sitting on tahiyyat position (tahiyyat: sitting and making dua while praying) and he was always thinking about creation and purpose of life. We know that Hazreti Muhammed (peace upon him) sat down like tahiyyat when He (peace upon him) was called by Allah in Miraç Night (17th Chapter: The Night Journey can be found in the Quran). That is why Mahmud Sami Ramazanoglu always sat like tahiyyat in his whole life. When he was asked about playing games, ‘’Why do not you play with other kids?’, he replied with ‘’We are not created to play games.’’ This is the answer of Hazreti Sami, this is the dedication for sunnah! Because his answer is from Quran, Allah says 6:32 – ‘’And the worldy life is not but amusement and diversion, …’’ and 21:36 – ‘’And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play.’’
Hazret-i Mahmud Sami Ramazanoglu continued to live his 96-year life according to sunnah of Rasulullah (peace upon him) which can only be found in the religion books and texts by people. From birth to death, the summary of his whole life was 24/7 sunnah lifestyle with worship. As Hazreti Abdullah Ibni Ömer said and Pir Efendi Hazretleri recorded this very beautiful statement to express the prophetic life, ‘No doubt and unquestioningly accepting all prophetic actions of Rasulullah Muhammed Mustafa (peace upon him).’ just like the ultimate bleesed life of Hazreti Sami. Muhyiddin Arabi Hazretleri (Şeyhü’l Ekber, the biggest scholar from 6th century) seperates the miraculous deeds into 2: moral and material deeds. This scholar thinks that the material deed is less important than the moral miracuolous one which is absolutely living 24/7 prophetic life and it is known that Hazreti Sami’s life was just like that. Muhyiddin Arabi Hazretleri also gives a very profound example that the miraculous deeds of allies of Allah can be understood like menstruation period of women. The reason of his connection between menstruation and miraculous deed can be found irrelevant, however women who live in islamic countries naturally feel shyness and experience difficulties about their biological period. That is why they do not want to talk about their monthly period cases in front of people. Just like this ethical attitude, allies of Allah do not want to talk about their miraculous deeds in front of society, they lead a modest life with the help of strong wisdom. When we look at the history of islam, we can see a very interesting example about miraculous deed of one of the greatest scholars from 10th century, Abdulkadir Geylani Hazretleri. It is recorded that once upon a time an Armanian kid needed help and said, ‘’Help me Ya Hazreti Geylani!’ for his work about carrying very heavier sacks to his animal in Abdoğlu village in Adana. With the help of Hazreti Geylani, the kid didn’t feel hardship and he just put the sacks so easily instead of so much pain and difficulty because of weight. We need to ask: How did Hazreti Geylani come to the help of this kid immediately? Well, that is a secret can not be explained logically, due to the fact that Allah creates everything as He wants.
Similarly, some ikhwans experienced the same miraculous deed with Dr Baha Bey (one of the ikhwans of Hazreti Sami) instead of Armanian kid and Hazreti Mahmud Sami Ramazanoglu instead of Hazreti Geylani in 1971 in Erenköy. One of the meeting nights, while Baha Bey was listening to interesting story of Hazreti Geylani and the kid, the doctor didn’t control himself and suddenly said, ‘I swear, Hazreti Sami is definitely like Hazreti Geylani. Whenever I need help, he immediately responses to my call and my problem quickly is solved!’ That was unexpected moment…After the doctor took the lid off (take the lid of: sırrı açığa çıkar-mak ???? ) of Hazreti Sami’s unique miraculous ability, Hz Sami didn’t wait, felt unpleasent and said ‘’el-Fatiha’’ (el Fatiha is always read at the end of islamic meeting), then he continued, ‘We accepted your offe-ring food and may Allah bless you.’ without eating something and and finally, Mahmud Sami said to his closest ikhwan Muhammed Öztürk, ‘Get ready for car.’ There are so many lessons can be taken from Hazreti Sami’s attitude based on this memory: Firstly, he did not reply with negative words even he heard unexpected comments about himself. Secondly, he gave power-ful lesson not to mention about miraculous secrets in front of all people and at the same time he shared the importance of living sunnah indirectly, too. Because these special deeds come from Allah, they are mercy signs from the Most Mercy Allah and we have to be thankful every time. So, we have to understand how to interact with these special scholars. May Allah help all of us. In conclusion, Mahmud Sami Ramazanoglu is still a role model for the believers. His way of living is clear to follow and appreciate. May Allah give wisdom and guidance us to understand his dedicated life linked to sunnah of Rasulullah (peace upon him), forgive our mistakes, increase our knowledge, and give opportunity for his intercession (şefaat) in day of judgement.Sosyal Medya Hesaplarımızı Takip Edin
